Since I’m new to this and never kept a diary as a child, the thoughts and topics are going to move back and forth in time. I hope I have shared this story with you in person and your mom may even have a different perspective but this is how it happened. I was reading a post on social media one day When a picture caught my attention. Your mom and I were seven states away from each other but only 2 degrees separated online. When I saw your picture, her smile was so pure and so beautiful that I immediately was drawn to her. I sent her a friend request but she lived in Washington DC and I was in Boston so I was sure it wouldn’t end up going anywhere. She accepted and a few months later sent me a message asking for recommendations on where to go during a trip to Boston. I was excited to possibly meet her so despite the fact that she could have googled the answer, I sent her suggestions. She ended up canceling that trip to go to London instead but I told her that if she ever ended up here – she should let me know. Months and months later she emailed again. This time her friend Jenny was heading to Harvard and needed a realtor- again I thought, you could google that but I helped and hoped it was her trying to get to know me. I was wrong. That friend hired a different realtor and you mom asked me if it was ok if her friend called me since she didn’t know anyone in Boston. I figured she was trying to have her friend check me out for her before she came to visit. Again I was wrong- she was trying to set me up on a date with her friend Jenny. I didn’t know so I just kept talking about your mom. A few weeks later your mom came to visit Jenny and I met her in person for the first time at Sonsie’s (a restaurant on Newbury street in boston). I remember being nervous and later on your mom told me she could tell. We had a nice night with friends and she let me drive her home to her friends house. I thanked her for a nice time and watched her walk inside. Normally I hated going to cambridge but little did I know that this stoop outside of Jenny’s apartment was going to be a special place for us. Eventually this is the place that I first kissed your mom. I dropped her off after a date, I asked her if I could kiss her goodnight and she said yes. I remember feeling really lucky to have met her and later she told me her leg lifted when I kissed her – like you see in the movies. Your mom traveled back and forth from Virginia/ D.C. To boston almost every week to see me and it was the best part of my week. Your mom will tell you more detail I’m sure but very early on I remember telling her that by the next year she would be living here and then we would be married and have a baby. It happened just like that. I knew right when I met her that she was the one. Like any relationship,It wasn’t always a fairytale, but I wouldn’t give up any of the moments that brought us to where we are today.
